People's Protected Areas (PPAs) -
An integrated Ecosystem
Management Approach
F rom the 20% net profit realized
out of the tendu patta trade, People's Protected Areas or 'PPA'
have been established in 16 areas in 14 districts since the year 2000. In
these areas towards conservation and development of the MFP resource
nearly 50,000 hectares and around 3000 Hectares is being attempted
under the in-situ and ex-situ conservation components of the project
respectively with the support of the local communities.
The people's Protected Areas are
examples of natural resources which fall under category VI of
IUCN classification of Protected Areas. PPA is presently being implemented in
following 16 areas of the state:-
